Richmond National Autistic Society (NAS) hosts regular online get togethers for parents of children with autism or on the social communication pathway via Zoom.
THURSDAY 7TH OCTOBER 2021 FROM 8PM TO 9.30PM BY ZOOM
AUTISM and THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR
An invitation to parents/carers of school aged children with autism/social communication difficulties to attend a support social evening hosted by NAS Richmond branch and Skylarks, on Thursday 7th October 8-930pm (on Zoom).
As it is the start of the new school year, we thought it would be good to focus on school related topics and give you an opportunity to think about and share challenges, suggestions and/or support around such topics as:
- Preparation and routine
- Returning to school after lockdown and the holidays
- Sensory issues in the classroom
- Anxiety and coping/ Burnout and meltdowns and strategies which may help
- Reasonable adjustments -what is essential and what can I compromise on
- Disclosure (ie telling classmates and/or other parents about diagnosis)
- Working with the school
The evening will be hosted by parent members of the NAS Richmond, Laura and Susie (also from Skylarks) and we are very pleased to welcome Michaela Eggleston, SEND Advice Service Manager at Skylarks, who will be joining us.
Our NAS Richmond Support Group is a confidential space and we welcome all parents wherever they live. We will be particularly happy to see not only those who are looking for support, but parents who have helpful strategies which they are happy to share with the group.
NAS Richmond have also set up a small support group for parents of autistic adults living away from the family home
For parents and carers of adults (over 18 years) with autism who have moved out of the family home, not including those in residential colleges who come home at weekends and/or holidays. For more information, please contact NAS Richmond by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
All Richmond NAS meetings are an open forum and there will be parent members of the National Autistic Society Richmond present to listen to any concerns you have around supporting children and young adults with autism spectrum conditions. As with the coffee mornings we usually run, NAS Richmond will be there to ensure people feel included and are able to support one another. All are welcome wherever you live.
The times of the event are from 8pm to 9.30pm. Please do not worry if you are late - you can join at any time.
The Zoom link will be sent to you in advance, usually the day before. If you do not receive it, please check your junk folder.
This session is aimed at adults and we encourage you to find a quiet place where you won’t be overheard or disturbed. However we understand that you have your children at home with you and that this may not always be possible. Please be aware of the safety of your children during our live sessions.
While you are taking part in a Skylarks live online session, you are responsible for your child/ren's safety. Please make sure your child/ren are fully dressed in case they walk into the room.
You must not record, photograph or video any Skylarks live online sessions
You must not share any Zoom passwords.
If you are concerned about any other child or parent who is part of the group, please contact a member of Skylarks staff.
