Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) is a strengths-based community education programme designed to increase parents’ and carers’ confidence and skills through group discussions, family activities and practical hands-on sessions.
SFSC is an inclusive, evidence-based parenting programme, designed to specifically promote protective factors which are associated with effective parenting and better outcomes for children. At the heart of the SFSC programme is an ethos of equality, diversity and inclusion and these themes run throughout the course.
The course aims to:
Help parents reflect and think about how experiences may influence their parenting values
Gain a better understanding of child development
Learn positive discipline strategies and techniques
Help with routines and behaviour
Help manage conflict and anger
Improve confidence & self esteem
Help with relaxation and self-care
Improve family relationships
Please note that, in order for the group to work well together, places are limited to 12 participants on this course and we ask participants to make the commitment that they will be able to attend all 10 sessions. We know that things sometimes crop up which mean you can’t come, but please do your best to attend all the sessions as this means the group is more likely to work well together.
This course is open to any parent of any child with any additional needs from any borough.
We regret that there is no childcare available, so please make your own arrangements. The course will finish in time for school pick up but you are welcome to leave when you need to. You are welcome to bring a sandwich with you for lunch; coffee, tea and snacks will be provided.
For our course we are suggesting a donation of £20 which includes your workbook. You can make a donation via bank transfer or by PayPal via our website or in cash on the day. All donations are optional.
