Run by Pictologue

PICTOLOGUE PLAY THERAPY SESSIONS FOR 8 - 11 YEAR OLDS

Specifically designed for children with learning difficulties / disabilities (Non ASC related)

We are delighted to be working with Pictologue who will be providing their Play Therapy ToyBox programme for Skylarks which has been funded by The Hampton Fund. This is the first of three courses (one each term) run for children with learning difficulties / disabilities. Please note, this course is not for children who have ASC or autism. There will also be 3 separate courses run for children with an ASC diagnosis.

These groups are designed and led by a qualified Play Therapist and supported by Therapy Assistants. Pictologue is a children's charity for better communication

Background
Play contributes significantly to the development of empathy, emotional and social intelligence, compassion, reflection, problem solving, creativity, initiative and resilience to stress. Specialised Play Therapy improves emotional and social skills with transferable outcomes. These therapeutic play groups are designed to nurture and develop skills and provide strategies for daily experiences to improve mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Key support strategies include:
● structured games
● opportunities for creativity
● open discussion
● exploration
● feedback and reflection

The therapeutic group course consists of 10 sessions. Each session lasts 40 minutes

They are specifically designed for children who meet all 3 of the following criteria:

  • Learning difficulties / disabilities (non ASC related)
  • Verbal communicator - able to understand and use sentences
  • Group ready - able to benefit from learning together with peers

Autumn Term Stream 1

Wednesday 21st September - Wednesday 30th December 2022 (no session in half term) 4pm - 4.40pm

Theme;

'Angry Ant' Anger Management

Controlling angry feelings is challenging for children who have learning difficulties / disabilities. The struggles they experience in everyday life - for example, due to communication and sensory differences - may lead to feelings of frustration and anger. This exploratory group provides a fun, natural atmosphere where children can develop a better understanding of their feelings and learn strategies to better manage anger. Children attending this group should demonstrate angry outbursts on a fairly regular basis.

Parents will be asked to complete Pictologue registration documents beforehand and a pre-group consultation will be scheduled. If you do not do this in time, your child may not be able to take part.
