Friday - Stay, Play and Support Session

Run by Skylarks staff and volunteers
Our Stay, Play and Support sessions on Friday mornings are aimed at families who have pre-school children with additional needs. Come and be part of the Skylarks community!

Families who have older children who are home-educated or not attending school for other reasons (such as school refusal or school-based anxiety) are also very welcome. Please let us know if you are bringing an older child so that we can prepare toys and activities for them

The Session runs from 10am - 12pm at The Crossway Centre

While your children are playing in our playroom at the Crossway Centre, you can be in the same room talking to a member of Skylarks staff or an outside expert for support, information and advice. Depending on the size of your family, we may also be able to have a volunteer in the room to play with your children.

ON SOME FRIDAYS WE HAVE A SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST AT OUR SESSIONS, WHO WORKS PARTICULARLY WITH CHILDREN WHO HAVE AUTISM. SHE WILL BE ABLE TO TALK TO PARENTS INDIVIDUALLY AND GIVE YOU IDEAS OF GAMES AND ACTIVITES YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOUR CHILD'S LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT. PLEASE NOTE, SHE WILL BE THERE IN A PERSONAL CAPACITY AND IS NOT REPRESENTING ANY LOCAL AUTHORITY OR HEALTH AUTHORITY.

The next dates are:

Friday 10th February

Friday 24th February

Please do not bring your child if they are off school because they are ill. We can not allow anyone who is feeling unwell or sick into our sessions.

What do I need to do before I come?

  • Please read our new guidelines carefully - https://www.skylarks.charity/page/member-guidelines
  • Please book online. Families must book in advance as numbers are limited, so you must book to use the playroom. You need to book EACH child in, so that we know numbers to expect. If you have not booked, you will unfortunately not be able to attend
  • Please read and follow instructions from Skylarks re Coronavirus procedures

What will happen when I arrive at the Crossway Centre?

Everyone must sanitise their hands on arrival and before leaving.

All adults and children will have their temperature taken using a digital contactless thermometer.

You will be asked to wear a mask and/or visor, unless you are exempt. Children do not have to wear a mask but may do so.

Buggies and prams can be left under the stairs where they will not obstruct exits or access to the lift.

What will sessions at the Crossway Centre look like?

The two play sessions take place between 3pm & 5pm on Tuesdays and from 10am to 12 midday on Fridays

All staff and volunteers will wear face masks and/or visors. The staff will also wear purple Skylarks T-shirts, so that you can recognise us!

A staff member or volunteer can make you a cup of tea or coffee.  Please keep all hot drinks out of the reach of children.

You may bring your own snacks, but please do not share them and please do not bring anything containing nuts or sesame. Please do not leave water bottles where they might be used by others. Please supervise your children when eating to make sure they don’t leave food lying around and please clean up any spillages or leftovers.

If your child has a toileting accident, we ask you to clean up. We will provide gloves and cleaning materials. Please have a spare set of clothes with you.

Donations can be made by contactless card reader, not in cash.

Thank you for helping to make Skylarks a safe place for everyone
