Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) is a strengths-based community education programme designed to increase parents’ and carers’ confidence and skills through group discussions, family activities and practical hands-on sessions.
SFSC is an inclusive, evidence-based parenting programme, designed to specifically promote protective factors which are associated with effective parenting and better outcomes for children. At the heart of the SFSC programme is an ethos of equality, diversity and inclusion and these themes run throughout the course.
The course aims to:
Help parents reflect and think about how experiences may influence their parenting values
Gain a better understanding of child development
Learn positive discipline strategies and techniques
Help with routines and behaviour
Help manage conflict and anger
Improve confidence & self esteem
Help with relaxation and self-care
Improve family relationships
Please note that, in order for the group to work well together, places are limited to 6 participants on this course and we ask participants to make the commitment that they will be able to attend all 6 sessions. We know that things sometimes crop up which mean you can’t come, but please do your best to attend all the sessions as this means the group is more likely to work well together.
You will need a laptop, tablet or phone with a camera to take part in this course.
If you have not used Microsoft Teams before, please ask and someone will be able to help you set it up and do a practice session with you.
