Career Coaching Programme - Spread Your Wings For Young People

May 29, 2026

Skylarks offers a Careers Coaching programme, 'Spread Your Wings' for Young People with additional needs.

Spread Your Wings is Skylarks’ employability and career coaching programme for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Our programme supports young people to develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and independence needed to prepare for adulthood, further education, supported internships, volunteering, and future employment opportunities.

Online Programme (Ages 12–15)

Spread Your Wings is delivered virtually to young people aged 12–15 through six interactive online sessions after school. The programme is complemented by additional online workshops for parents and carers, helping families support their young person through a collaborative and strengths-based approach.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and funding partners, the online programme is currently free for Skylarks families, although donations are always needed and greatly appreciated.

School & College Delivery (Ages 16–25)

Skylarks also works with mainstream secondary schools, colleges, and specialist settings to deliver the programme in person for learners aged 16–25 with SEND.
The six-week programme is delivered during the educational day and includes follow-up support for learners, parents, carers, and education providers to help unlock future opportunities and progression pathways.
School and college delivery is a commissioned service and is chargeable depending on cohort size and delivery requirements.
What Young People Learn

Throughout the programme, young people:

  • Explore their personal strengths, interests, and qualities
  • Build confidence and self-awareness
  • Develop communication, teamwork, and workplace skills
  • Learn about career pathways and future opportunities
  • Explore digital skills and online communication
  • Gain a better understanding of money management and financial independence
  • Develop aspirations and goals for the future

Learners also hear from inclusive employers, professionals, charities, and peers, helping them understand the opportunities available to them and the different routes into employment and further education.

Creating Real Opportunities

The final session is a key part of the programme, connecting young people with real-world opportunities. Learners may meet representatives from local businesses, charities, community organisations, supported internship providers, local authority services, and employment support organisations.
These connections help young people explore pathways into employment, supported internships, apprenticeships, volunteering, further education, and training.

More Than Employability

Spread Your Wings is about more than getting a job. It is about helping each young person recognise their strengths, celebrate their individuality, build resilience, and move forward with confidence.
Using a neuro-inclusive and strengths-based approach, we help young people feel valued, capable, and optimistic about their future.
Working With Schools, Colleges and Families
Skylarks is keen to work with mainstream secondary schools, colleges, specialist settings, local authorities, employers, parents, and carers to create inclusive opportunities and positive futures for young people with SEND.
