Practical Parenting course for Hounslow parents
offered by Hounslow Children’s centres
Hounslow Children’s Centres tailored parenting course designed around the “what, when and why’s” of our under 5’s!
 
Practical Parenting is a four-week on-line course that gives an opportunity for parents to increase their understanding, and enhance their learning, regarding their child’s development. Parents can also have their parenting questions answered by our trained Children’s Centres Practitioners.
 
This course is aimed at parents of children aged between 18 months and 4yr olds.
 
Each of the four weeks has a theme:
Week 1 – ‘Listening, Talking’
Week 2 – ‘How Important Is Play?’
Week 3 – ‘Stages of Development’
Week 4 – ‘Setting Routines and Boundaries’
 
The course will run for 4 weeks starting on Tuesday 19th January and finishing Tuesday 9th February . The course will run for an hour each week  10 am – 11am  . If a family decides to take a place on the course then an email will be sent with joining instructions.

NVR Practitioners Consortium

Non Violent Resistance (NVR) course

10-week Online Group Course

Offered by NVR Practitioners Consortium CIC 

Tuesdays, 1-2:30 pm or 8-9:30 pm 19th January – 30th March 2021

Available to those on a low income or receiving means-tested benefits.

Are you struggling to manage your child/young person’s aggressive, violent, controlling or self-destructive behaviour?

The Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) Parenting Programme has helped thousands of families to change their lives. Parents report increased confidence in their parenting, a greater sense of agency and improved relationships within the family. NVR has proved effective with neuro-atypical children/young people, and those with other diagnoses. It has been implemented in a wide range of family situations, including violence, drug/alcohol misuse, verbal abuse, self-harm, oppositional behaviour and eating disorders. NVR can be used with children from around 5 years old, right up to adulthood.

RESILIENCE TRAIING FOR PARENTS FROM BOUNCE FORWARD

Free training for parents/carers on how to raise resilient children.  Aimed at parents of children aged 9 and above.  Not SEND specific but easily adaptable.
Six sessions of one hour each

Richmond Borough Mind - Carers in Mind project
Richmond Borough Mind has started supporting parent/guardian carers whose children/teens are struggling with their mental health. 
 
They are offering one to one support and guidance to parents, by phone or video call, or in some cases face to face. This service is for families with a connection to Richmond (who live, work, study or have a GP in Richmond).

They are offering 3 workshops aimed at parent carers whose children are struggling with their mental health. These workshops are open to parents from any borough although some of the information may be more relevant to Richmond families.

Training session on sensory needs
Tuesday 28th January

For parents of children up to 12
Sensory Needs is one of the Autism Seminars for Families which provides
information and advice to parents and carers of children and young people with
autism or on the pathway to a diagnosis of autism.

The seminar will help families to:
consider the different sensory systems and how they work together
examine how sensory information may be processed differently
discuss how children with autism may have different sensory experiences
share strategies and approaches to help with sensory needs.

You will find this seminar more helpful if you have attended the Understanding
Autism Seminar or EarlyBird or EarlyBird plus so that you have some
understanding of autism.


      

Express CIC

Express CIC is a not-for-profit community organisation supporting young people
with autism and their families.  It is based in Surbiton but anyone is welcome to
use their services.


Express CIC have groups for mums, dads, siblings and girls.

Express CIC has a support group for parents of children with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).

SEN Explained

Speaker: Kieran Rose (https://theautisticadvocate.com/)
Kieran Rose, The Autistic Advocate, and Valenza, Parent Project Lead, will have a discussion invoking a sensitive exploration of autistic masking, burnout and support strategies we can apply to curtail ableist narratives. Through stories told from his own life, Kieran will take us through the dangers of neuro-normative expectations on individuals on the spectrum, how to differentiate between burnout and mental illness, well-being support strategies, and a more useful understanding of masking with consideration of trauma and socialization.
