SPECIAL EVENT WITH HABITATS AND HERITAGE CHARITY
We are delighted to be holding a BAT WALK with Habitats and Heritage charity on WEDNESDAY 9th September.
Grove Gardens Chapel, Richmond
Wednesday 9 September from 7 - 8.30pm
Join us for an evening discovering bats and learning more about the fascinating bat species that live locally, with the help of bat detector devices and an informative talk from Charlotte who works for local charity Habitats & Heritage. We meet at dusk and explore the local area, listening out for the sounds that bats make, with the help of high frequency listening devices.
We suggest this activity is suitable for families with children aged 7 and above. It will take place in the dark in a disused graveyard, so please make sure your children are comfortable with this.
Please note:
We will have Skylarks staff and volunteers in attendance, but parents must stay with their children and are responsible for them.
The bat walk will take place in the graveyard of a disused chapel. Please make sure you and your children are aware of this. We can use the chapel as a meeting point and a place to leave coats, bags, buggies etc (it will be locked during the bat walk). The chapel also has an accessible toilet.

Please note the bat monitors can be noisy when there are lots of them together.
If you have an Android smartphone/tablet, please bring it along, as this can be used to listen out for the bats. There is an app which you can install before you arrive. This is called EchoMeter Touch Bat Detector and you can download it from the play store.
Getting there:
Parking is quite limited near the venue. There is some parking in the side streets, but they are quite narrow. We suggest coming by public transport if possible.
Lower Grove Road is the best place for parking. From the point where it comes off Queen's Road and goes up to the corner of the burial ground there are some parking spaces, and then there are sometimes also places on the part of Lower Grove Road that runs alongside the Grove Road Gardens park. Parts of Lower Grove Road have double yellow lines so please look carefully, but the parts that don't have yellow lines are free and unrestricted. The same applies to Greville Road, Pyrland Road and Park Hill, all of which have some space but not as much as Lower Grove Road.
Finding the chapel and burial ground:
Please follow this map which shows how to get there by walking on a path across the park. Please note that there is another chapel near to the entrance of the burial ground which is a private residence so please do not knock on its door.
