The 5 life stages of Autistic Vulnerability - a talk by Dr Carly Jones MBE

We are delighted to offer this talk by Dr Carly Jones MBE, online via zoom on Thursday 16th April from 8pm - 9pm with the opportunity for Q&A from 9 - 9.30pm

Sadly research shows that 91 % of autistic women and girls will experience abuse in their lifetime . This session aimed at young autistic adults aged 16+ and parents of autistic young people of any gender, looks into various forms of abuse, discussing the 5 stages of vulnerability and how to support young autistic adults in relationships to thrive, recognise and report abuse and heal after experiencing abuse.

Dr Carly Jone MBE, British autism consultant and advocate

Carly is an autistic woman and mother of three daughters, two of whom are autistic. She started advocating for awareness and equality for autistic women and girls in 2008 and made the first online safeguarding course for autistic girls.

Now Carly works as a professional autism consultant, keynote speaker and independent advisor. She is Co-Production Lead for NHS England’sLearning Disability and Autism Programme London, Chair of Aviation and Maritime for Department for Transport DPTAC . 

She is an Independent Panel Member for the Ministry of Justice Public Appointments, recruiting diverse talent for major positions such as the Parole Board and the international judicial system court examiners. She works as an advisor and committee member for the Cabinet Office Honours System, the
Foreign Office, Heathrow Airport and more. 

Carly was Co-Chair of the Executive Steering Group for the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism for the NHS. In 2020, she designed, made, self-funded and launched Visual Pain Images UK, a free app available on Android and Apple devices globally to help autistic people communicate their pain with their carers and doctors for twoyears during the pandemic.

Her book, Safeguarding autistic girls: strategies for professionals, was published in December 2021,followed by My autism journal in 2023 by Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
