The National Archives Travel Smart through Time' session at Skylarks Hounslow
The ‘Travel Smart through Time’ session looks at how and why have people travelled around in the past and how have they done it safely? In this session, families will explore different types of transport through the ages using sensory props (including sounds and smells!), roleplay, song, and call and response activities. Families will also explore how to travel smart and safely on different types of transport today, giving the children opportunities to build key social and life skills.
Travel Themed Crafts
We will also have a range of Travel themed crafts (e.g. we have car and plane shaped paint stampers, little aeroplanes to decorate, lots of travel themed stickers and a large cardboard ship to decorate!). We will also have some sensory play for the families, including kinetic sand with cars and diggers, and a ‘Selfie’ corner where families can dress up in silly holiday costume and take a photo. Of course, there will be lots of images of documents where travel features in the records!
Who is this for:
This session is suitable for children aged 7 and above. It is open to children with any additional needs, plus their siblings. Parents are expected to stay on the premises. Families from any borough are welcome. Families can also use our sensory room if they need to take a break.
