We are pleased to offer another online course in technology for Skylarks children with additional needs. They are open to all children with any additional needs from any borough who would enjoy learning more about technology and are able to use a computer or laptop at home. These courses will take place by Zoom.
These courses are being provided for us by Fire Tech, who are registered with OFSTED. All tutors are DBS checked and sessions are recorded for safeguarding purposes. You can read more about the organisation here:
Course: Senior Adventures in Artificial Intelligence, suitable for young people from 13 to 17 years old
Course provider: Fire Tech
This course will take place from Monday 20th December to Thursday 23rd December, from 5pm to 7pm every day.
There are 4 sessions in total.
Please note: this is a 4 day course and your child needs to be able to attend all 4 sessions. If your child cannot attend all 4 sessions, please do not book them in but wait until we are running another course.
There is a limited number of places on this course, so if it is full, you can put your child's name on the waiting list. We will be running more courses again in the next holidays and beyond.
After booking with Skylarks, parents will be sent a link to register with Fire Tech. This is your opportunity to let Fire Tech know about their child’s additional needs and any adaptations that may help your child. A phone call can be arranged with Fire Tech if necessary. All Fire Tech trainers are aware of our children’s needs and have been asked to deliver the course at a slower pace, to repeat instructions as required and to provide written materials in advance where possible.
Please note you must complete the registration with Fire Tech. If you have not done so the Thursday before the course starts, your place may be offered to someone else on the waiting list.
Parents will receive an invitation to log into a virtual classroom a few days before the course starts. The setup information will be already posted in the classroom when you login for the first time. The Zoom link to the first session will be posted a few hours before the first session.
Led by Fire Tech's tech-loving instructors, you’ll create a home of the future using Artificial Intelligence (AI), program an autonomous vehicle to avoid pedestrians and objects on the road, and use professional tools to build a series of AI models.
This course does more than teach the fundamentals of AI. It also explores issues of computer bias, ethics and the moral dilemmas programmers face when using AI. This is the ideal course to spark interest in this important and dynamic technological field, and will inspire students to continue their learning journey in AI.
What you will learn during the course:
- Confidence in writing and creating AI models.
- To incorporate AI and Machine Learning into an app.
- To use text based AI to identify celebrities by their tweets.
- The fundamentals of Machine Learning and what confidence means in an AI model.
- About the functions AI can perform really well and how they are being used in the world already.
- How to create an AI that will tell you how good a film might be based upon its poster.
- How to use algorithms and functions as well as how to test and debug AI and Machine Learning models.
Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi, one laptop per student (tablets are not suitable for this course), webcam and microphone integrated. You can view our recommended detailed system requirements here.
